Take a look. Here is the first 2026 Ram 1500 Ramcharger prototype that has been spied in the wild (in Leadville, Colorado – the highest elevation city in the United States). Ram has also published all of the Ramcharger range-extender production specs. Let’s dig in!

Huge thanks to Cole T. for sending us these images. Cole reports that this Ramcharger prototype had a pronounced electric whirring sound when it was moving slowly, sound that he perceived as louder than other EVs. Could this Ram have a version of the Dodge Fratzonic chambered exhaust sound?

Leadville, Colorado is known as the highest population city in the USA at 10,152 feet above sea level. It’s also relatively close to I-70 and the Ike GauntletTM Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel mountain pass. High altitude testing is very important for vehicle such as this. It’s a pickup truck that need to carry heavy payloads and tow heavy trailers in a variety of environments. The 3.6L V6 generator engine will be struggling for oxygen at these Colorado Rocky Mountain elevations. The nearby Loveland Pass is close to 12,000 feet above sea level.

This Ramcharger prototype appears to be a more luxurious Limited or Tungsten trim level. It appears to be rolling on optional 22-inch wheels. It’s set up for towing with Ram’s towing mirrors.

It’s pulling a relatively small trailer. Some versions of the Ramcharger will be rated at 14,000 lbs of maximum towing capabity. This prototype is pulling perhaps half that weight. If you look closer at the trailer – it has a 5-bolt trailer axle hubs. These axles are likely rated at 3,500 lbs maximum load each. Hence, this tandem axle trailer could weight up to 7,000 lbs.

If you are curious about the Ram Ramcharger details specs – we have it here. It’s important to note that the Ram 1500 Ramcharger will have a GVWR of just under 10,000 lbs (likely 9,990 lbs). It means it will not require a commercial driver’s license if using it for work as part of a fleet. You will be able to get a Ramcharger with a three across front seating arrangement for a total of six people.

The production version Ramcharger packs a lot of performance into the footprint of a standard Ram 1500 crew cab short bed. Ram says it will do a 0-60 MPH in 4.5 seconds. It has 145 miles of all electric range, and 690 miles of range extended range. The maximum payload for the base truck is listed at 2,625 lbs. This puts this 1500-series pickup truck squarely into heavy-duty pickup territory.

Provided that the Ramcharger is rated at just 20 MPG in combined driving, it is meant to be driven on electricity most of the time. The gasoline generator and fuel tank are there to support, but if you never charge the battery externally – you will still be burning a lot of fuel.

We still do not have the starting price or the price sheet for it. Ram says the Ramcharger will go on sale in the beginning of 2026. We do not have a more precise date as of right now.
